Aussies Abroad Weekly Wrap: Jones reigns in Japan
Star of the show: Brendan Jones fired a nine-under 62 in the final round to win the Token Homemate Cup on the Japan Golf Tour on Sunday. The New South Welshman finished two shots clear of local Ryuichi Oda as he won on the tour for an 11th time. Jones, 37, started the final day three shots off the pace but stormed home to finish at 15-under. After collecting the $320,000 winner&aposs prize, Jones hailed the round one of the best he has ever played. Breakout of the week: Scott Hend also produced an excellent final round, but his came at the European Tour&aposs Malaysian Open. Hend finished tied for 11th at eight-under, nine shots from winner Louis Oosthuizen, after carding a six-under 66 in the final round in Kuala Lumpur. Shot of the week: Greg Chalmers produced this brilliant 69-foot chip to birdie the par-four 18th during the third round of the RBC Heritage. He was solid at the PGA Tour tournament, finishing tied for 20th at one-under. Several Australians are in the field, including the likes of Chalmers, Stuart Appleby, Steven Bowditch, Matthew Goggin, Marc Leishman, Nathan Green, Matt Jones and Nick O&aposHern. Meanwhile, Australians will be well-represented at the China Open, an event co-sanctioned by the OneAsia and European Tours. Richard Green, Marcus Fraser, Andre Stolz, Nick Cullen, Kim Felton, Terry Pilkadaris, Scott Laycock, Craig Hancock, Ashley Hall, Aaron Townsend, Anthony Summers, Jamie Arnold, Andrew Dodt, Matthew Zions, Scott Strange and Brett Rumford are all in the field. The LPGA Tour resumes with the Lotte Championship in Hawaii, where seven-time Major winner Karrie Webb will be joined by fellow Australians Katherine Hull, Sarah Kemp, Sarah Jane Smith and Lindsey Wright.
