Aussies Abroad Weekly Wrap: Ogilvy 12th at Players
Star of the show: 2006 US Open winner Geoff Ogilvy picked up his best result of the year on the PGA Tour this week. The 34-year-old finished tied for 12th at The Players Championship on six under overall. It is Ogilvy&aposs fifth top-25 finish in 2012. In a tough week for Australian golfers, two others matched Ogilvy&aposs result. Danielle Montgomery finished 12th at the Turkish Ladies Open and Jamie Arnold finished in the same position at the Maekyung Open Golf Championship in Korea. Breakout of the week: Montgomery matched her best-ever finish (12th) on the Ladies European Tour (LET). The English-born golfer, who is now based in Western Australia, grabbed her first top 15 finish this season at the Turkish Ladies Open, with her previous best (39th) coming at the Ladies Scottish Open earlier this month. Montgomery&aposs form is on the way up and she is poised to crack the top 10 in the Ladies German Open that starts on May 24. Shot of the week: Nick O&aposHern had recovered from three bogeys through his first 10 holes to get to even par but hit his tee shot into bushes at the par-four 12th hole in the opening round of The Players Championship. And while he would go on to miss the cut, he hit a brilliant 109-yard approach to within half a foot for a tap-in birdie. Tweet of the week: @Daniellesgolf – T off at 8.30am for Turkish ladies open. Up early and the music is thumping from nightclub conveniently situated 20m from my bed!! #nosleep What lies ahead: Jason Day heads a group of Aussies that will play at the Byron Nelson Championship that starts on Thursday. The world No.16 won the Texas-based tournament in 2010 and will hope to replicate that this week to claim his first victory since. John Senden will fly the flag for Australia at the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Spain. The LPGA Tour heads to New Jersey for the Sybase Match Play Championship with Karrie Webb, Katherine Hull and Lindsey Wright set to be involved while the Ladies European Tour takes a break ahead of the Ladies German Open from May 24. From the Couch: It is a good week for the couch potatoes this week as the European Tour&aposs Volvo Match Play, the Byron Nelson Championship and the LPGA&aposs Sybase Match Play will all be live on Fox Sports this week. The Volvo Match Play will start around 10pm each night from Thursday, while the Byron Nelson Championship will be followed by the women&aposs match play in the early hours of the morning from Friday.
