Aussies around the world: Weekend Preview

The 2009 PGA Tour kicks off on Thursday with the season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship at Kapalua s famed Plantation Course in Hawaii. Australians Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy are in a field which consists only of professionals who won on the Tour in 2008. Scott gained his place with his win at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship and Ogilvy sealed his spot with his win at the World Golf Championship. The championship has a solid history with the Aussies- Stuart Appleby reigned supreme three times between 2004-2006. A total of 33 players will compete in the field which does not have a cut. Sweden s Daniel Chopra is the defending champion after beating American Steve Stricker in 2008. Click here to see the full field for Hawaii. On the PGA European Tour, the Joburg Open begins on Thursday in South Africa. There are no Australians in the field. The remaining international pro tours do not commence until February.
