Aussies finish well back

Brendan Jones was the best Australian performer on the final day of the Woodone Open, carding a 66 to finish at five under for the tournament, ten shots behind winner Toru Taniguchi. It was a disappointing tournament for the Aussies with Steven Conran shooting a 69 to finish on two under, well down the leaderboard. Taniguchi won the tournament in a playoff against Prayad Marksaeng with both players finishing on fifteen under, three shots clear of third-place getter Hiroshi Iwata. Jones started the round with little chance of catching the leaders and after had an up-and-down front nine with two birdies and two bogies. But after the turn, Jones shifted gears, with a blemish-free final nine holes picking up strokes on 10, 11, 12, 15 and 18 to card an impressive five-under round of 66. Conran continued his less than impressive recent form, the only highlight of the Aussies round an eagle on two. Conran had just one birdie and one bogie for the rest of the round to cap off a disappointing tournament.
