Aussies hang tough as Flesch streaks away

Jarrod Lyle will need a minor miracle to catch leader Steve Flesch despite an excellent four under round of 68 on day three of the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Lyle is the best-placed Aussie at 11 under the card but trails Flesch by a sizeable eight strokes. Matthew Goggin is also eight shots back after signing for a two-under round of 70. Robert Allenby and John Senden are a shot further back after carding 69 and 70 respectively. Flesch fired a six-under-par 66 to take a four-shot lead after the penultimate round. Overnight leader Flesch carded seven birdies and a bogey to open up a four-shot cushion over Carl Pettersson, who also fired a 66, and Charles Warren at 19-under 197. Three birdies on his first six holes had Flesch off to a fast start before a bogey at the 11th left him two-under. Flesch dropped a six-foot birdie putt on the 14th and after grabbing a birdie at the 15th and a par a hole later, he closed his round with back-to-back birdies. “This is the second time this year I&aposve had a lead like this,” said Flesch. “It is different this time. The first time, I was playing to secure my card and keep my job. I&aposm just having fun this week. I&aposve got nothing to lose. I can just go at it and be aggressive.” Parker McLachlin (65) is six strokes adrift of the leader at 13-under 203, with Michael Allen (68) and Bill Haas (69) a further shot adrift.
