Aussies into last 16 in Argentina

Australia’s representatives in the Argentinian Amateur Championship have charged into the final 16.

Both Victorian Cameron John and Queenslander Anthony Quayle recorded 3&2 victories in the first round of the matchplay phase today in a rainswept Buenos Aires.

Earlier, John finished the strokeplay phase seeded second after finishing at four under after bad weather forced its reduction from 36 to 27 holes.

Quayle also impressed, finishing one under and T11 in the strokeplay.

The Australian team, which led until being overhauled by Canada late in last week’s Tailhade Cup, is handling the constant weather delays well, according to Golf Queensland coach Richard Woodhouse who is with the players in Argentina.
