Aussies look to knock off Kiwis in seniors

The Golf Australia senior team to contest the 2017 Sanctuary Cove Trophy has been determined.

The Sanctuary Cove Trophy is an annual match against seniors from New Zealand. The match will be played at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club on 10-11 July 2017.

The team members are Stefan Albinski (NSW) , John Banting (WA), Ken Brewer (NSW), Gordon Claney (Vic), Geoff Cranfield (NSW), John Davey (SA), Ian Frost (Vic), Peter Hannah (Qld),Kym Olsen (Vic),  Lester Peterson (NSW), Greg Rhodes (Vic) and Steve Toyne (Qld).

New Zealand has been the dominant team in recent times, winning the title on the past five occasions. Australia most recently held the trophy in 2011, so in 2017 is sure to put up a tough battle to ensure the trophy returns to Australia.

The two 12-man teams contest foursomes and four-ball match play on day one, followed by singles match play on day two.

The event has been played 10 times previously, with New Zealand taking a 7 – 3 lead over Australia.

The Sanctuary Cove Trophy continues to grow in popularity and although a very competitive event, the camaraderie that exists between the players from both countries makes it enjoyable on and off the course.
