Aussies set for final round of World Junior in Japan

Australia has dropped off the pace after shooting a third round 214 in the Toyota World Junior Championship in Japan. After back-to-back rounds of 210 to open, the Aussies have drifted to equal-sixth behind South Africa and Chinese Taipei who carded scores of 207 on Thursday. Matthew Giles has been the best-performing Aussie with a combined total of four-under after his three rounds. He sits equal-10th in the overall individual standings alongside South African Dean O&aposRiley. Sweden continues to set the pace at 23-under, however defending champion Norway mounted a charge in the third round and closed the gap by four strokes. The Scandanaian rivals are now separated by just one stroke heading into the final day. While the lead pair jostled for position, New Zealand quietly snuck under the radar into outright third. The Kiwis carded the best overall score of the day (204) and now sit on 12-under, three strokes ahead of Chinese Taipei but well in arrears of the leaders. The final round is currently underway and in order to claim an automatic exemption into next year&aposs event, Australia must finish in third place.
