Aussies shine at Invictus

In a jam-packed week of world golf, an important world event slid under the radar with the sport's first foray into the Invictus Games at St Georges Golf & Country Club in Toronto, Canada.

Flying the flag for Australia was the duo of Shaun Lawler (NSW) and Paul McGinty (ACT) who finished 11th and 22nd, respectively, in the single stableford format.

The Invictus movement was founded by advisors to Prince Harry of Wales with the first Games taking place in London in 2014 and Sydney set to host for the first time in 2018.

An important vehicle for rehabilitation for ex-servicemen and women around the world, the Invictus movement is about demonstrating the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and demonstrate life beyond disability.

Golf’s addition this year was a logical progression of the adaptive sports program of the Invictus Games, a competition in which athletes compete using golf’s handicap system that recognises performances at multiple ability levels.

Invictus — Latin for unconquered.

Well done, Aussies!
