Australia has won the individual title and the teams event at the Asia Pacific Senior Amateur Championship played in the Philippines.
In a devastating display the Australian Team consisting of Greg Rhodes (Vic), Stefan Albinski (NSW), Ian Frost (Vic), Gordan Claney (Vic), Steve Toyne (Qld) and Peter Hannah (Qld) led all the way and finished in four of the first five positions in the individual title to claim victory.
They won with a total of 898 to easily defeat the New Zealand side who finished well to overtake the Japan team and took second place by one stroke – New Zealand 917, Japan 918, and Korea 923.
The individual event went to Greg Rhodes (Vic) in a nail biting finish. Locked in a thrilling battle with Stefan Albinski (NSW) it was a double bogey on 17 by Albinski that made the difference. Rhodes then clinched the title with a birdie on the last.
Australia finished first, second, equal second and fifth in the individual title. A fantastic effort.
