Clubs and facilities around the nation will throw open their doors throughout October to offer a wide variety of activities and promotions to inspire people to play golf.
So whether you are a newcomer, a lapsed golfer or simply want to try a new facility or facet of the sport, Golf Month is the perfect time to get involved with almost 400 clubs and facilities running over 1100 activities and offers during October.
Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt urged all golfers to play their part by sharing their favourite destinations and reasons why golf is an integral part of their lives.
“People love our great game for so many different reasons and our best advocates – Australia’s golfers – love the chance to share their stories,” he said.
“This year’s campaign asks golfers around the country to share on social media or among friends their tales of family, fun and fitness, or simply the magical surroundings of Australia’s golf courses.
“To inspire them to do so, Cobra Puma Golf will give away a Cobra F6 King driver each week for the best social media posts using the hashtags #whatdrivesyou and #GolfMonth.
“We can’t wait to see what drives you to play golf during Golf Month 2016.”
In addition, Golf Month is giving away two incredible 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open experiences in Adelaide in February, including flights, accommodation, clubhouse tickets and a money-can’t-buy place in the pro-am field.
“Because we believe club membership is such a wonderful way to experience golf, one of these will be given away to a club member who introduces a new member to their club,” Pitt said.
“The other will be given away to a lucky Golf Month 2016 participant, so we hope to host someone new to golf at Royal Adelaide in February, as well as an engaged club member.”
Golf Month is perfectly timed to take advantage of the warming weather and longer days of spring.
“With many footy seasons drawing to a close, longer days and better weather for much of the country, we think it’s the perfect time to showcase our sport and give people the opportunity to play,” Pitt said.
“Not only is golf a game for life that delivers a host of health, social and community benefits, it’s becoming an increasingly broad church by offering a wonderful range of options to the modern consumer.
“We’re delighted that so many clubs and facilities are running our national introductory programs – Swing Fit for women and MyGolf for juniors – this October, but we've been equally excited to discover people's plans to sneak in a few quick holes after work or play indoor golf on a simulator.
“The diversity of golf activities on offer in October extends to new formats of the game such as speedgolf, footgolf, disc golf and big hole golf – and we encourage people to experience golf in these innovative ways.
“Whether you’re keen to start playing or looking to enhance your existing skills, Golf Month is also a great time for a lesson or clinic with a PGA professional.”
Pitt said the entire golf industry was behind the promotion and encouraged people of all ages and abilities to participate in Golf Month and benefit from the fantastic range of activities, including `come-and-try’ days and family clinics.
