Australia wins Ashes… again!

By Alistair Hogg Australia has beaten England by seven points to claim the inaugural amateur golf &aposAshes&apos event at Moonah Links on the weekend. The teams competed in match play format throughout the weekend on the windswept links course on Melbourne&aposs Mornington Peninsula. The Aussies held a commanding lead after the first day and maintained their dominance in the singles on day two, winning four and a half of the six points on offer. The highlight for the hosts was Ray Beaufils stunning 5&4 victory over world number one amateur, Jamie Moul. Andrew Dodt, Richie Gallichan and Josh Younger also tasted success against their British counterparts. The event finished 11-4 in Australia&aposs favour and despite the unbalanced scoreline, both sides relished the opportunity to pit themselves against some of the best amateur golfers in the world. The success of the tournament and positive response from the players suggests the Ashes of amateur golf might be here to stay.
