Golf Australia today launched its new branding for the Australian Amateur Championships, to be held at Commonwealth Golf Club and Woodlands Golf Club in Melbourne from 15-20 January 2013. Now a little over three months away, the Championships are the pinnacle golf titles for male and female amateur golfers in Australia and the new logo embodies the championships overall progression. Golf Australia s Manager Championships Therese Ritter said the new logo was a key element in the context of international amateur golf. With the world s major amateur events all having their own logo we felt it was appropriate for our premier amateur event to also have its own individual brand, Ritter said. In today s competitive golf calendar, we are working hard to ensure the championships maintain their positions as world-class events in the men’s and women’s landscapes and the Championships own brand continues that work and adds to its growing identity. The 2013 Championships for men and women will be played over 36-holes stroke play qualifying, with the leading 64 men and 32 women progressing to elimination match play. The event has attracted high-quality overseas competitors in recent years, coupled with the best of Australia s players. This is reflected in the current champions World No 1 Amateur Lydia Ko (New Zealand), and World No. 16 Marcel Schneider (Germany). The events are Australia s oldest golf championships, both dating back to 1894 and with each champion receiving an exemption into their respective Australian Opens. The championships will also have their own dedicated mini-site at www.australianamateur.com.au
