Australian Hickory Shaft Championship

The Australian Golf Heritage Society (AHGS) will hold its annual Australian Hickory Shaft Championship at Carnarvon Golf Club on Friday 21 November.

For those that would like to host similar Hickory Shaft Championships contact the AGHS. More information  can be had from the Downloads page on the AGHS website.

Sets of hickory clubs can be hired on the days. If you’ve never played with clubs from the golden age of golf, you’re in for an enjoyable and unique experience. All levels of players are welcome.

Handicap and scratch prizes can be organised. You will be amazed at the some of the scores put together by the players seriously competing for the scratch prize.

The Australian Golf Heritage Society can organise a hickory golf event tailor-made for your club. Having one hole played entirely with hickory clubs is ideal for golf clubs running a charity day. AGHS recently ran a hickory hole at Bayview Golf Club for a charity day run by the Bayview lady members for Mona Vale Hospital. As well as raising money for the Hospital, the hickory clubs and the custom-made tees – in the style dating back more than 300 years – generated a lot questions.

Back in the clubhouse the hands-on experience with two historic putters from the AGHS Golf Museum again gave rise to lively Q&A sessions.

So all in all everybody had an enjoyable day and at the same time learned a bit about golf’s rich heritage.
