Australian Junior Championship Update

Girls Round Two:

Royal Fremantle member Minjee Lee (WA) extended her lead to five strokes after the second of competition at the Australian Girls’ Amateur Championship at Mount Lawley Golf Club.

The current Australian Amateur champion backed up her opening round 69 with a 2-under par 71 in cloudy conditions to hold the lead over defending champion Su Hyun Oh (VIC) who also shot a second round 71.

Mount Lawley member Hannah Green (WA) is on even par, a stroke further back from Oh. Australian Amateur runner-up Jenny Lee (SA) is three strokes behind in a tie for fourth with Montana Strauss (VIC) who has indicated she will withdraw from tomorrow’s third round.

The final two rounds are played over 36 holes on Friday.

Boys Round Two:

2010 Australian Boys’ Amateur champion Anthony Murdaca (SA) is hunting a second National Junior title after second consecutive 66 put him at 12-under par at the Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship at Pinjarra Golf Club, south of Perth.

Were he to win, Murdaca would become just the third player in history to win the title multiple times, joining Adam Scott (1997/1998) and Grant Waite (1982/1983).

Lucas Herbert (VIC) is his nearest challenger after shooting a 4-under par 68 to be two strokes behind Murdaca.

Minwoo Lee, brother of Minjee, is in a tie for third place with Harrison Traylen (WA), seven strokes behind Murdaca.

Ryan Ruffels (VIC) is in a five tie for sixth place with Viraat Badhwar (QLD), Jordan Bishop (SA), Kevin Yuan (NSW) and Ben Elliott (TAS).

The final two rounds are played over 36 holes on Friday.
