Australian junior titles head west in 2018

The Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships and Interstate Teams Matches will head west in April 2018 for the first time since 2013.

The Australian Girls’ Amateur and Interstate Teams Matches will be played at Royal Perth Golf Club from 11-17 April. This will be the sixth time the club has hosted the Girls’ Amateur, and the third time hosting the Interstate Teams Matches for the Burtta Cheney Cup. The events were last played at Royal Perth Golf Club in 1986.

With a tight and challenging layout, the course is sure to test some of Australia’s and the world’s best young golfers, all hoping to add their name to the trophy next to the likes of Jan Stephenson, Minjee Lee and Su Oh.

The West Australian girls’ team has not won the Interstate Teams Matches since 2005, so on their home turf will be looking to win the title for the seventh time since its inception in 1977.

Located south of Royal Perth Golf Club, Gosnells Golf Club will play host to the Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship from 11-13 April. This will be Gosnells Golf Club’s second staging of a GA National Championship, having hosted the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur in 2015.  Players will be hoping to add their name to the trophy which includes past winners Adam Scott, Jason Day and Cameron Smith.

Following the individual championship, players will head to Hartfield Golf Club to contest the Australian Boys’ Interstate Teams Matches from 16-19 April. Set in natural bushland, it was voted the WA PGA Course of the Year in 2011 and hosts a GA National Championship for the first time.

2018 sees the West Australian Team as defending champions, who will be hoping to retain the trophy in WA.

Both the Australian Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championships are played over 72-holes stroke play. With the winners receiving exemptions into the Emirates Australian Open and the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, they are championships eagerly contested.

Entries open on 16 January.
