Australian men ready for Eisenhower Trophy

The stage is set for the Australian team of Matt Jager (Western Australia), Bryden Macpherson (Victoria) and Kieran Pratt (Victoria) to tee off tonight (AEDST) at the World Amateur Team Championships from 28-31 October at Buenos Aires Golf Club and Olivos Golf Club in Argentina. The Australians begin their campaign for the Eisenhower Trophy at Buenos Aires Golf Club and have been paired with Sweden and Guatemala in the opening two rounds. Jager is the current Srixon Australian Amateur and Stroke Play champion and 2009 and 2010 New Zealand Amateur champion and has represented Australia numerous times at international tournaments. Macpherson, a former Dunes medallist, is currently based at the University of Georgia. He was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year by the league&aposs coaches to headline the All-Freshmen Team. He won both the Srixon Australian Men’sStroke Play championship and New Zealand Men’sStroke Play Championship in 2009 and has represented Australia at both the Trans Tasman Cup and Nomura Cup. Pratt will travel to Argentina after recent successes included wins at the Lake Macquarie Amateur, the Dunes Medal and Victorian Amateur Championship. He was also the runner up at the 2008 Riversdale Cup and represented Australia at the Trans-Tasman Cup. The Australian men’s team coach is Garry Calder (QLD) and the team manager is Stuart Cox (NSW). The Australian men’s team last won the Eisenhower Trophy in 1996 in a team that included Jamie Crow, David Gleeson, Jarrod Moseley and Brett Partridge. Each team has two or three players and plays 18 holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team s score for the championship. A total of 70 teams have entered the men’s section of the World Amateur Team Championship, five more than in Adelaide in 2008. Organised by the International Golf Federation, teams of men and women come from all over the world to compete for the Eisenhower Trophy (men) and Espirito Santo Trophy (women) within three different zones: Asia Pacific, America and Europe & Africa. Players must be amateur golfers and follow the rules of The R&A or United States Golf Association.
