Australian Ormsby takes out Indian Open

Australian Wade Ormsby broke his duck on the Asian Tour with a one-stroke victory at the Panasonic Open India on Sunday. Ormsby survived a horror triple-bogey on the third hole to card a final round of 71 to finish at nine-under overall for the tournament at the Delhi Golf Club and claim a wire-to-wire win. Thai veteran Boonchu Ruangkit had to settle for second at eight-under, while Singapore&aposs Lam Chih Bing was third a stroke further back. Indian Shiv Kapur finished three shots adrift of Ormsby at six-under. Ormsby headed into the final day with a one-stroke advantage but his hopes of a maiden Asian title were in the balance when he recorded a seven on the third hole. However, the 33-year-old kept his composure by sinking four birdies on his way to victory, including the decisive putt on the 17th. “It means so much. I&aposve played tournaments worldwide but to finally get a win in Asia is fantastic,” Ormsby said after his triumphant display in New Delhi. “I felt pretty good on the fourth tee but I just put my head down and tried to get down into it and birdied the fifth. “I was so disappointed in Malaysia and Chiangmai as I played well on both weeks but didn&apost finish them off. I knew there was a win in there for me and I am glad I came here.” Boonchu was bidding to become the oldest winner in Asian Tour history at the age of 56 and appeared to be on track to do so until a bogey on the 16th. Ormsby is the second Australian in a row to win on the Asian Tour after Scott Hend&aposs success at the Chiangmai Classic in Thailand last week.
