Golf Australia is pleased to announce the Australian teams to compete at the 2010 World Amateur Team Championships in Argentina from 16-31 October at Buenos Aires Golf Club and Olivos Golf Club. The Australian men’s team is Matt Jager (WA), Bryden Macpherson (VIC), Kieran Pratt (VIC) and Jordan Sherratt (SA). The Australian women’s team is Julia Boland (NSW), Stacey Keating (VIC), Justine Lee (NSW) and Alison Whitaker (VIC). Jager, a member of Melville Glades Golf Club, is the current Srixon Australian Amateur and Stroke Play champion and 2009 New Zealand Amateur champion and has represented Australia numerous times at international tournaments. Macpherson, a former Dunes medallist, is currently based at the University of Georgia and won both the Srixon Australian Men’sStroke Play championship and New Zealand Men’sStroke Play Championship in 2009 and has represented Australia at both the Trans-Tasman Cup and Nomura Cup. Commonwealth Golf Club member Kieran Pratt will travel to Argentina after recent successes included wins at the Lake Macquarie Amateur, the Dunes Medal and Victorian Amateur Championship. He was also the runner up at the 2008 Riversdale Cup and represented Australia at the Trans-Tasman Cup a fortnight ago. South Australian Jordan Sherratt captured the NEC Master of the Amateurs title earlier this year following a successful 2009 which included winning the Barrett Amateur Championship in Canada, the Riversdale Cup and representing Australia at the Nomura and Four Nations Cups. The men’s team coach is Gary Calder (QLD) and the team manager is Stuart Cox (NSW). Julia Boland, based at Texas A&M College, has won three times on the US College circuit since last August and is the only member of either squad who competed at the 2008 World Amateur Teams Championship in Adelaide. She has won the last three Lake Macquarie Women’s Amateur Championships and won the 2009 Srixon Australian Women’s Stroke Play championship. Keating, who was crowned Srixon Australian Amateur champion last month, won the Dunes Medal in December and the Victorian Women’s Stroke Play Championship. A former Canadian Amateur champion and Irish Stroke Play champion, Keating has represented Australia regularly at international tournaments. Lee, the 2009 Srixon Australian Amateur champion, represented Australia at the recent Trans-Tasman and Queen Sirikit Cup in New Zealand. In 2009 Lee also won the New South Wales Amateur, Queensland Amateur and Western Australian Women’s Stroke Play. Alison Whitaker is based at Duke University in South Carolina and in October last year led Duke to victory at the NCAA Fall Preview Championship. She won the Victorian Women’s Amateur Championship in 2009 and was paired with Laura Davies and Katherine Hull at the 2010 Handa Women’s Australian Open in the third round. The women’s team coach is Dennise Hutton (NSW) and the team manager is Jane Searle (NSW). Australia hosted the World Amateur Teams Championship in 2008 at Royal Adelaide Golf Club and The Grange Golf Club. In the Espirito Santo Trophy, the Australian women’s team finished tied for 15th while in the Eisenhower Cup, the Australian men’s team finished in sixth place. The Australian men’s team last won the Eisenhower Cup in 1996 in a team that included Jamie Crow, David Gleeson, Jarrod Moseley and Brett Patridge. The Australian women’s team last won the Espirito Santo Trophy in 2002 in a team that included Katherine Hull, Lindsey Wright and Vicky Thomas. Organised by the International Golf Federation, teams of men and women come from all over the world to compete for the Eisenhower Trophy (men) and Espirito Santo Trophy (women) within three different zones: Asia Pacific, America and Europe & Africa. Players must be amateur golfers and follow the rules of The R&A or United States Golf Association.
