Australian team selected for Toyota World Junior

Australia has selected the Australian team to defend the Toyota World Junior Championship at Chukyo Golf Club near Nagoya, Japan from 18-21 June.

The team members are Lucas Herbert (Commonwealth GC, VIC), Ricky Kato (The Australian GC, NSW), Anthony Murdaca (The Grange GC, SA) and Ryan Ruffels (Victoria GC, VIC).

Herbert finished second at the Australian Junior Championship in April following his tie for second at the PGA Tour of Australasia’s Heritage Classic in January.

Murdaca won the Australian Junior Championship for the second time in 2013 while Kato is the 2012 Tasmanian Open champion.

Ruffels was part of the winning Australian team at the Ten Nations Cup in South Africa and won the Srixon International Sub Junior.

Both Kato and Murdaca played in the victorious team in 2012.

The Team Coach is Peter Knight and the Assistant Coach is Alex Head.

Golf Australia High Performance Director Brad James said the players would be eager to defend the title.

“We had a great result last year with the team shooting a combined 10 under par on the final day to win,” James said.

“The Toyota event is a great opportunity for these players to continue to develop their international experience."
