Japan turned in a dominant four-round performance to claim the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup 2010 supported by JAL at Chukyo Golf Club’s Ishino Course. The Japanese won by 14 strokes to claim its third TOYOTA Cup and first since 1997. Yosuke Asaji of Japan, Canada s Corey Conners and Denmark s Lucas Bjerregaard tied for medalist honors at 10-under 274 and will share the Maruyama Cup, which is presented to the individual champion. Australia finished with combined rounds of 219-212-205-212 to finish at 4-under par, some 26 strokes behind the champions. Queenslander Aaron Wilkin was the best Australian on the individual leaderboard as he finished with rounds of 72-72-69-67 to finish at 4-under par in a tie for 11th place. Victorian Geoffrey Drakeford finished in outright 15th following rounds of 75-69-67-70 for a total score of 3-under par. Jake Higginbottom and Ryan Peake finished in 27th and 39th place respectively. We really committed that we were going to win this tournament so we reminded ourselves at the table this morning that we re here to win, said Japanese coach Kimio Akune. We did that four days in a row and we were successfully able to keep that spirit going all four days and play very consistently. The Americans – who entered the day in second place – fell to third before a birdie on No. 18 by its final counter Yaroslav Merkulov moved the USA back to second at 16-under. Canada moved from sixth into a tie for third with Denmark and Thailand after the posting low round of the day (-10). The trio was one shot back of the United States. Argentina dropped to sixth at 8-under and was followed by South Africa (-6), Australia (-4), India (E), (Germany, +12), Colombia (+24) and Guatemala (+56).
