Back-to-back wins at Yarra Bend

Lefty Samuel Snelgar has notched up another victory, this time at the Yarra Bend Rookie Series event this morning. Snelgar booked himself a ticket in the final at Eastern on Friday but his solid play continued today with a super round of one-over 36 for the under 9 boys honours.

He was not the only player to win back-to-back as Sophie Tao also notched up the impressive feat in the under 12 girls category with a round of 39. After killing the field at Kooringal last week in an 18-hole event, Zara Shinn-Mahony carded a measly 24 shots for the handicap prize.

Skana Sutherland once again impressed in the under 16 girls with a round of 40 to finish top of the leaderboard. Ainsley Pho was too strong in the nett section with 30.

Young Arena Tran took home the under 9 girls category while her older brother was tackling the challenging Royal Melbourne layout in their annual junior tournament.

Woody Aldridge claimed the under 12 boys title by the narrowest of margins. Both he and Lenny Saville finished tied on 36 apiece but it was Woody that prevailed on a count-back. Regardless, Lenny’s superb performance of just 21 nett shots saw him on the podium for the handicap win.

Heading out in the very first group Lucas Antignani fired a round of 41 for the gross honours. Meanwhile it was Jack Scarborough who played in the same group as Lucas that waited for hours for the final group to finish to eventually be awarded with his nett medallion after carding 30 on the back nine.
