Baker-Finch to assist Player

Australian British Open winner Ian Baker-Finch will once again be international captain Gary Player&aposs assistant at the 2007 President&aposs Cup. Baker-Finch has been Player&aposs right hand man at the last two Presidents Cups in 2003 and 2005. He said he was happy to help guide the international team to this year&aposs tournament, which will be held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. “I am delighted that Ian has agreed to be my captain&aposs assistant again,” said Player. “He has been a great team man in the past, and his thorough knowledge of the players on the PGA tour makes him the ideal man to assist me in leading our team.” “We worked really well together in the last two Presidents Cups and he is well liked and respected by all the players. It makes great sense to continue to have him as part of the International set-up.” Baker-Finch has also served as assistant captain for the International team at the 1996 Presidents Cup under Peter Thomson and has performed this role more than anyone else in the history of the tournament. “I am once again very honored to have been asked by Gary to assist him, and I can assure him of my full support as always,” Baker-Finch said. “It looks like we are going to have a very strong team, and it would be great to come away with a win after being so close on the last two occasions.” The International Presidents Cup team will be announced at the conclusion of the USPGA Championship this weekend and is expected to include Australians like Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy.
