Ballard and Tatt early leaders at Victorian Senior Amateur

Sal Ballard and Chris Tatt are in some good form as the 2013 Victorian Senior Amateur begins down at Rosebud.

The field of 132, including 8 players who currently stand in this year’s Australian Top 20 rankings, had amassed to compete in this year’s 54-hole state championship. In its third straight year at Rosebud Country Club, players went out in fairly calm conditions, but were greeted with scattered showers throughout the day. This didn’t worry early leaders Ballard and Tatt who shot one over par 72.

Ballard who is from Penrith Golf Club showed why he is a plus 1 marker after going out in 34 and coming home in 38. Meanwhile, 2009 Victorian Men’s Senior Amateur champion Chris Tatt (Buninyong) showed that he is in good enough form to win after matching Ballard’s 72. Closely following the leaders are Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) and Gary Easte (Spring Valley) who produced solid scores of three over par 74.

In the nett section, Gary Easte, Chris Tatt and Eddie Kloprogge (Rosanna ) lead with a round 1 nett score of 69.

Round 2 will begin tomorrow with the first group out at 7:30am.
