One hundred and fifty two women representing thirty eight clubs have entered the 2013 Barclay Shield next Monday at the Devonport Golf Club. The popular foursomes event commemorates Grace, Lillias and Effie Barclay who gave many years of service to Tasmanian golf. The three sisters were involved in the administration of golf for over 50 years and became quite legendary in their own rights. Twin sisters, Grace and Lillias were both foundation members of the Tasmanian Ladies Golf Union. Grace held the position of Secretary for 50 years while Lillias was President and Vice-President for some 26 years. Grace Lillias were both State amateur champions and Effie frequently represented Tasmania. The trio were easily identifiable on the golf course as Grace always wore navy blue, Lillias, brown and Effie, grey. The championship is contested over 18-holes by teams of four players with the winning team being that with the lowest net aggregate stroke total. Richmond Golf Club was victorious in 2012 and will be represented this year by Alison Salter, Lynette Munnings, Sueanne Richardson and Pauline Corney.
