Barraba Pair Win NSW Sand Greens Fourball C’ship

Leaderboard Leaderboard – Nett Prize Winners Photo Gallery Baraba&aposs Peter York and Ben Koopman have won the NSW Sand Greens Fourball Championship by two strokes today at Coonamble Golf Club. An even par round of 36 pts in addition to their six under par round yesterday gave the pair a two stroke victory over fast finishing Michael and Jacob Ryan (Cobar). In the nett event, Walgett pairing of Gareth Bullock and Ron Fuller took the honours on a countback after four pairs finished equal on 97 pts after two rounds. Today&aposs barn storming finish (51 points) was enough to take home the prize. Round 1 Report Baraba&aposs Ben Koopman and Peter York hold a four stroke lead after the first round of the 2012 Sand Greens Fourball Championship. Highlighted by Peter&aposs eagle two at the par four 3rd hole, the Baraba pair played some great golf to post an outstanding score on day 1. Four strokes behind are Walgett&aposs Rodney and Neil Newton and Wallacia&aposs Ben Michelmore and Chis Moreton. Four pairs sit a further stroke behind, so there are plenty within striking distance should the Baraba pairing falter at all on day 2. There have also been outsanding scores in the nett event, with 51 points from locals Richie Pawley and Paul Cleary leading the pack. Another local Joseph Goldsmith is in second place, paired with Tamworth&aposs Ross Duncan (Longyard GC). Coonamble&aposs course is in great condition, and the weather is forecast to again be perfect for scoring. Pre-Event Article A field of 170 (65 pairs) will contest the annual 2012 NSW Sand Greens Fourball Championship being held at Coonmable Golf Club this weekend, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 April 2012. DRAW and PLAYER INFORMATION The Championship will be conducted over two rounds of 18 holes (36 holes), scratch fourball stableford. Handicap events, run in conjunction, will be conducted as two 18-hole fourball stableford events using the stroke index of the club. The entire field will contest all two rounds. There are a number of prizes awarded for the Championship: NSW Sand Green Fourball Championship (36 holes scratch) – Winner, Runner Up, Third Place 36 holes nett – Winner, Runner Up, Third Place 18 hole events -Round 1 Winner Scratch, Round 1 Winner Nett, Round 2 Winner Scratch, Round 2 Winner – Nett A ball competition will also be run each day with automatic entry for all players. The Championship was open to male amateurs whose handicap does not exceed 36.4 strokes at the date of entry. There are no less than 22 local pairs from Coonamble vying for the title including Tom Boland & Allan Colwell, Barry Pettiford & Steve Gough, Wade White & Peter Foodey, Ken Moody & Ray Pickering, Joseph Goldsmith & Ross Duncan, Peter Blattman & Bernard Rutherford, and Neil Robinson & Barry McIntyre. It is great to see so many local s embracing the event. Coonamble Golf Club will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner options throughout the weekend for players and guests to the Club.
