Beljan battles to lead in Florida

American Charlie Beljan has battled ill-health to move to the top of the leaderboard at the Children&aposs Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. The 28-year-old PGA Tour rookie carded an eight-under-par 64 at the Palm Course at Lake Buena Vista in Florida on Friday to finish on 12 under at the halfway mark, but the second half of his round was a struggle as he battled shortness of breath. Beljan suffers from asthma, and he was forced to stop and rest at several points before breaking down in tears at the completion of his round. The American has a three-shot lead over a chasing pack of seven men on nine under. That group consists of Australian Matt Jones, who shot a 64 at the Palm Course, while South Korean Charlie Wi (71) and American Mark Anderson (67) both played the Magnolia Course on Friday. Americans Harris English and Charles Howell III, plus Swede Henrik Stenson and Japan&aposs Ryuji Imada, are the other players tied for second on nine under the card. In a log-jammed leaderboard, 10 men are a shot further back on eight under, headed by American Kevin Streelman, Colombian Camilo Villegas, Swede Daniel Chopra and Argentine Miguel Angel Carballo.
