Peter Bence (Peninsula-Kingswood) and Sue Lush (Gardiners Run) have claimed the major trophies in the 2018 Lang Lang Senior Amateur.

An hour south-east of Melbourne, Lang Lang is a short but challenging course boasting tight fairways and tricky green complexes.

Built on a sand base, the course was presented in immaculate condition and the slick greens proved a great challenge for all.

Peter Bence shot a terrific 77 off the stick, with birdies on holes 9, 11 and 16, which was just enough to nudge out Geoff Charnley (Rossdale) on a countback.

Belvoir Park’s Gary Johnstone came in with the best nett score, shooting nett 71 off a handicap of 10 to edge out Peter Bence by 1.

Sue Lush successfully defended her title by taking out the women’s scratch section with 24 scratch stableford points.

Finishing four shots back from Lush were Heather Harley (Kooringal) and Helen Drake (Dorset) on 20 points.

In the women’s stableford event, Cranbourne’s Zdenka Better was victorious with 33 points off a handicap of 35, finishing two clear of Sue Lush.

The next event on the senior calendar is the Melbourne Senior Classic to be played at Spring Valley & Woodlands Golf Clubs on October 29-30.
