Sports Columnist for the Sunday Mail, Ben Hook and Royal Adelaide Teaching Professional Daniel Blackwell have commenced compiling a short list ahead of selecting their final 18 holes in October.
Hook is planning to publish a two-page feature article in October in the Sunday Mail which will essentially feature the best 18 holes in South Australia ‘you absolutely have to play before you die’.
Essentially there will be a City 9 and a Country 9 and each hole will have a Pro's tip (Blackwell) and the Amateur's tip (Hook).
Criteria to make the top 18, are likely to be, holes which may have one or more of the following: a great layout, are strategic, picturesque, unique, testing.
There are many great golf holes in South Australia which are sure to make the list, like Royal Adelaide’s famous short Par 4 third hole, which offers the possibility of an eagle 2 to the brave but with the possibility of a quite disastrous score.
And the breathtaking elevated first at Victor Harbour which has sweeping views over Encounter Bay and the Bluff.
There may be a few surprises though, as Hook and Blackwell compile their list over a three month period from late July until early October.
To start their quest, the two ventured out to Links Lady Bay on the Fleurieu Peninsula on Thursday 23 July to ‘review’ their first course and select their first hole.
