Bettencourt holds on to win NSW Amateur C’ship

Western Australia&aposs Hayley Bettencourt held her nerve to win the Final of the NSW Amateur Championship at Twin Creeks today. After 18 holes, she was 9 up and everyone was ready for an early presentation, however, Queensland&aposs Ali Orchard dispalyed her fighting qualities to win 5 of the next 9 holes. AFTERNOON In the first semi-final of the Women’s NSW Amateur Championship, it was Queenslander Ali Orchard (Surfers Paradise GC) who took the spoils, defeating Lauren Hibbert (Pennant Hills GC) 3/2. The second semi-final saw West Australian Hayley Bettencourt (Mandurah GC, WA) account for Cathleen Santoso (The Lakes GC), 3/2. Tomorrow s final will be played over 36-holes, commencing at 8.20am. It will see Queenslander Ali Orchard battle it out the West Australian Hayley Bettencourt. In the semi-finals of the NSWLGU Salver it was an epic match between Molly Lavercombe (Concord GC) and Sophie Cusack (Tenterfield GC). The match went to the 21st hole, with Cusack the eventual winner. The second semi-final was won by Rhonda Magner (Concord GC) 4/3, defeating Robyn Tait (Cumberland GC). The final of the NSWLGU Salver tomorrow will commence at 8.12am, with Sophie Cusack (Tenterfield GC) and Rhonda Magner (Concord GC) contesting for the title. MORNING The round of eight played this morning in the Women’s NSW Amateur Championship. Shelley Shin (Concord GC) had a great tussle with Ali Orchard (Surfers Paradise GC), Orchard eventually knocking off the number one seed, winning the match 4/2. Lauren Hibbert (Pennant Hills GC) defeated Ellen Davies-Graham (Redcliffe GC, QLD) 4/3. Current members of the Women’s NSW team, Cathleen Santoso (The Lakes GC) and Olivia Wilson (NSW GC) battled it out, Santoso taking the match 3/2. Hayley Bettencourt (Mandurah GC, WA) defeated Charlotte Thomas (Sentosa GC, Singapore) 3/1. In the final match Robyn Tait (Cumberland GC) had a win over Lesley Papworth (The Hills GC, NZ) 2/1. Christine Dickson (Port Macquarie GC) accounted for Kate Stuart (Cumberland GC) 1up, while youngster Amy Chu (Liverpool GC) won her match against Lynne Toomey (Concord GC) 3/2. Dickson and Chu will now contest the Final tomorrow morning, commencing 8.04am.

Match play commenced today in the 2012 Women&aposs NSW Amateur Championship, played at Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club. The top 16 (who nominated to participate) from the Women&aposs 72-hole Stroke Play Championship played earlier in the week at Castle Hill Country Club, play today. In the first match number one seed Shelley Shin (Concord GC) defeated Carly Beck (The Australian) 2/1. Queensland s Ali Orchard (Surfers Paradise GC, QLD) had a good win 4/3 over New Zealand s Emily Perry (Lochiel GC, NZ). Another Queenslander, Ellen Davies-Graham (Redcliffe GC, QLD) had a tight match with Elly Cheon (Concord GC) eventually winning 2up. Lauren Hibbert (Pennant Hills GC) accounted for yet another Queenslander Zoie Cooper (Parkwood GC, QLD) winning the match 2/1. In the battle of the women from The Lakes Golf Club, Cathleen Santoso defeated Adrianna Brent 2/1. Olivia Wilson (NSW GC) played well against Jana Welsford (Pambula-Merimbula GC), winning 5/4. West Australian Hayley Bettencourt (Mandurah Country Club, WA) continued her good form, defeating Aliza Huff (Pennant Hills GC) 2/1. All the way from Singapore, Charlotte Thomas (Sentosa GC, Sing) won her match against Dana Barriball (Forster-Tuncurry GC) comfortably, 6/5. The round of eight tomorrow will see some great matches.
