Bianca Ling goes back to back

Bianca Ling has gone back-to-back in the Victorian Champion of Champions defeating Sue Wooster 1 up in the 36 hole match. A member at Huntingdale, Bianca came up against a challenging and well experienced opponent in Sue Wooster (current Victoria Golf Club Champion).

With Settlers Run hosting, the day began in typical windy Melbourne conditions with Bianca gaining a slight advantage over the early holes. She continued this form to achieve a 3 up lead after the first 18. The fighting winds made the going difficult for both players, but this didn’t worry Ling who looked in the box seat after going 4 up after 26 holes. However, the skilled Wooster wasn’t going to let Bianca win this easily.

As they reached the last nine holes, Sue played some exceptional golf which included an impossible 50-foot putt on the 33rd hole to get the match back to square. An approach shot to 15 foot on the 35th hole set up a possible birdie putt for Bianca. She rolled in the birdie to go 1 up with one to go. A pair of pars down the last was good enough for Bianca to be crowned as the 2014 Champion of Champions.

Bizarrely Bianca becomes the 4th consecutive champion to go back to back after Elissa Orr (07/08), Breanna Elliott (09/10) & Rio Watanabe (11/12) all did the repeat.

All spectators and caddies should be congratulated for their involvement in this year’s tournament and we look forward to next year’s event to be played as only a 36 hole event at the Sandhurst Golf Club.
