Bit of everything for Luck on pro debut

Curtis Luck hopped aboard the scoring rollercoaster on his professional debut in the Texas Open today.

The Perth 20-year-old fired three birdies and a great eagle, but gave back six bogeys en route to a one-over-par 73 at TPC San Antonio.

Luck finished his round at T94, but only seven shots adrift of leader Branden Grace on a crowded leaderboard featuring a host of Australians.

Geoff Ogilvy, Aaron Baddeley and Matt Jones all are at three under and T19, while Cam Percy's consistent season continued with a two-under-par 70. 

Brett Drewitt and Cam Smith each fired even-par 72, while Queensland duo Steven Bowditch and John Senden are alongside Luck.

Greg Chalmers has work to do after an opening 75 in which he could not find a birdie.

Luck, understandably, began nervously on the 10th tee and didn't hit a green in regulation until the 15th, by which time he was three over.

But approaches within 3m, 3m and 7m on the 15th, 17th and 18th, respectively, had him back to even par.

Dropped shots on the first and third had him back in trouble again until a spectacular 25m bunker shot for eagle on the short par-four fifth drew him level again.

An errant drive on the eighth ultimately cost him one last bogey in a round that, despite its total, left very few in doubt that his best will sit handily on the US PGA Tour.
