Blistering start to the 2016 SAJG Regional Series

The Stuart Appleby Regional Series kicked off for 2016 at Metropolitan Golf Club today in blistering heat. The full field battled the mid 30 temperatures all day along the perfectly manicured layout that held host to the Australian Amateur last week. A gusty northerly added further difficulty to the conditions today but aided in keeping the players somewhat cooler.

Kew’s Linley Ooi scored today’s best round with a very impressive two over-par 76 in the challenging conditions to take out the overall girl’s trophy. Ooi was rock solid all day with a very steady nines to ward off her nearest challenger of Michelle Cuddihy who finished two strokes adrift.

Meanwhile it was a tight affair in the overall boys section when Antony Majstorovic and Jack Chrystie both signed for rounds of three over-par 75. In the end it was Majstorovic that prevailed on a countback to claim the top honours. Majstorovic’s last six months of play has been particularly impressive with solid rounds across the board as well hoisting the trophy on multiple occasions.

Thomas Hatt from Royal Melbourne returned the best nett score for the day with a blistering 66 nett to walk home with a winning smile in Division B. Matthew Howell narrowly edged out Su Young Oh by a single shot in A division with a round of 69 while Mackenzie Miller claimed the C division title with a very impressive 40 stableford points.
