Blues bow out of #USAM

Jordie Garner and Blake Windred have been bundled out of 2019 US Amateur on the opening day of the matchplay phase.

After enduring a sleepless night waiting for the conclusion of the second round of qualifying, Jordie Garner had to endure a 3 for 27 playoff for the final spots in the knock-out stage.

And his efforts almost paid off. Sadly however an errant drive on the par-four 18th hole cost him dearly, with the last place in the field going to American Austin Squires.

"I actually nutted that drive up 18; I just pulled it."

"Still, I gave it 110%," Garner said after the playoff.

The first-round exit in the round of 64 was also a bittersweet moment for Blake Windred.

In what is almost likely his last US amateur, Windred was gracious in defeat. His mind, however, is fixed firmly on his future.

"I'm disappointed, but I played great golf today. I shot even-par around this course and still got beat.

"My Opponent (John Pak) played really great golf. He would've beaten most people today."

Despite the loss, Windred is confident his game is heading in the right direction.

I'm better than I was last week, so plenty of good signs if I look at the big picture," he added.
