Blues set for Interstate challenge

The NSW Men’s and Womens State teams have come together for a final hit out at NSW GC before heading to next week’s Australian Interstate Teams Matches in South Australia.

In what has become a bit of a traditional grudge match, the Women’s team played the Men’s for the right to decide rooming rights during the series. State coach John Serhan said the challenge had become a popular lead-up event for both teams, and was a victory ball the players coveted.

“It’s been going for a few years now, hopefully it will continue for a few more years yet,” Serhan said.

The women won this year’s challenge, with Claudia Lim the Team Manager, holing a clutch putt on the last.

Post round, the teams were treated to a motivational session with acclaimed mind coach and motivator, John Novak. Serhan said Novak helped the team with goal-setting for the week ahead and also taught them a bit about the mental processes involved in becoming world-class athletes.

“John is extremely motivational and very much a part of the solution to the puzzle. He’s worked with Olympians, NRL football teams, and a number of professional golfers.

“He took them through some focusing exercises, and they now have a list of things to do to assist themselves.

“They know how to rate their performance each day, and hopefully, it will help them set goals which will help their performances throughout the week ahead.

“John brings a lot to the table mentally for these athletes, and his motivational session capped off what has been a great preparation for the upcoming series,” Serhan added.
