Boland, Keating share lead

Julia Boland (NSW) and Stacey Keating (VIC) share a one stroke lead at the Srixon Australian Women’s Stroke Play Championship after the opening round at Brisbane Golf Club. Boland, Australia s Number 2 ranked amateur and Keating, the Australian Number 1, both shot rounds of 2-under par 70 in perfect morning conditions. Keating said she was pleased with her opening round. Things went well really well today, I hit the ball well and made some good putts on these greens-I m looking forward to tomorrow, she said. Boland was also content and said she was satisfied with my ball striking. South Australian Ebony Heard is one shot behind the leaders after an opening round 71. New Zealander Caroline Bon and Korea s Annie Choi shot even-par rounds of 72. With perfect sunshine and a temperature around 30 degrees, the breeze increased in the afternoon and made the course, playing at 5,825 metres, a tough assignment for competitors. Western Australian Whitney Hillier fired a 1-over par round of 73. A host of players sit at 2-over par (74) including Women’s Australian Open Leading Amateur Justine Lee, Bree Arthur, Rebecca Flood, 12 year old Korean Su Hyun-Oh and Taipei s Pei-Ying Tsai. The second round continues tomorrow at Brisbane Golf Club with players keen to make an impression on the field by the halfway mark.
