Bondad the best in the west

National Squad member Frances Bondad has won the WA 72-Hole Stroke with a one-stroke win over team mate Emma Bennett at Lake Karrinyup. The pair had final rounds of 71 but it was the Sydneysider who managed to hold on and claim the title. Starting the day in equal-third, Bondad worked her way through her competitors by playing a solid brand of golf. She went through the turn one behind local Whitney Hillier who made a dramatic move in the front nine to lead the field with just nine to play. However the West Australian couldn&apost maintain her early form as she dropped vital shots which opened the door for her rivals. Birdies for Bennett and Bondad on 16 took them to a share of the lead at five-under and a spectacular up and down on the following hole from Bondad gave her the momentum. A three-putt on the 18th green from Bennett all but handed the championship to her team mate who made a regulation par to clinch the event by a single stroke. Overnight leader Massey was third after shooting a 75 and Hillier was equal-fourth with Victorian Kate Combes, three behind the winner. Click here to view the final score board
