Bondad’s Licence to Thrill

Golf Australia National Team member Frances Bondad scorched the field to shoot a nine-under 65 on the final day&aposs play to take out the 2007 Australian Women&aposs Stroke Play Championship. Having shot even par for the first two rounds, Bondad stepped up a gear, leaving the consistent leading pair of Shinae Ahn (NZ) and Jessica Noh (NSW) in her wake. Bondad completed the front nine six-under the card and had taken the lead from playing partners Ahn and Noh. By the end of play, the margin to Ahn in second place was extended to four strokes and Sunny Park (NSW) sat a further three shots back. Park finished with a solid score of eight-under while Noh was fourth with six-under. In her acceptance speech, Bondad was overcome with emotion as she paid tribute to her fellow players and family. The amateur also thanked Indooroopilly GC for the course they had presented throughout the week. The win gives Bondad an automatic exemption into the 2008 MFS Women&aposs Australian Open.
