Defending champion Suenghui (Kerri) Bong (Hills International) and first time champion Jordan Rooke (Wantima) have been crowned champions of the 2018 Greg Norman Junior Masters after an action-packed final day on the Gold Coast.
A total of 200 players converged upon Palmer Colonial and Palmer Gold Coast over four days, with 88 juniors making the cut on Wednesday.
16-year-old Rooke fired rounds of 68-73-70 respectively and finished with an even par of 72 to win by three strokes from Kyle Gray of Emerald Lakes.
Rooke’s final round included two birdies and three bogies the 12th, 17th and 18th holes. His win was made sweeter as this is his first championship win. He can have the Greg Norman Junior Masters trophy to sit front and centre in his cabinet, alongside the likes of Adam Scott, Cameron Smith, and Steven Bowditch.
“It’s unreal. I played so well this week,” said Rooke.
By virtue of his win, Rooke receives automatic acceptance into the 2019 Isuzu Queensland.
Defending champion Kerri Bong, a student at Hills Golf Academy, played a nail-biting fourth round. Having to fight her way to the top spot for the last two days, she maintained today’s morning lead over 17 & under division leader Cassie Porter and same age division leader Jeneath Wong.
The 15-year-old recorded rounds of 75-68-73 respectively, shooting a final round of three under par (70).
“I’m excited and happy to win again,” said Bong.
The win gives Bong an exemption to play in the ActewAGL Canberra Classic, March 2019.
Cassie Porter (Peregian Springs) claimed the 72 Hole Gross Runner up for the girls and Kyle Gray (Emerald Lakes) took out the 72 Hole Gross Runner up for the boys.
Junior Golf Queensland would like to thank Rules Officials, Tournament Support Staff and sponsors, Palmer Golf Australia, Fayde Golf and Titleist for their support of the event.
