Boulton & Wooster take Mid-Amateur Title

Mark Boulton (Phillip Island) and Sue Wooster (The National) have been crowned the 2015 Men’s and Women’s Mid-Amateur Champions following the final round at Long Island Country Club this morning.

Players were presented with ideal scoring conditions with only a light breeze making an appearance as the day progressed. The final day of play shaped up perfectly with a number of players well within striking distance of the overnight leaders in both the men’s and women’s sections.

At the conclusion of the final round in the men’s title, Boulton & Keysborough local Clay Nicholls were tied on a two round total of 148. The title was always expected to go down to the wire as both players had played consistent right throughout the event.

Boulton showed great poise under pressure to nail a clutch birdie on the first playoff hole to take the title by the slimmest of margins. Boulton paid tribute to Nicholls for the hard fought battle over the duration of the final round. Stephen Pickering representing Eastern Golf Club finished in third place just two stokes adrift of the top two.

In the Women’s Championship, Sue Wooster went wire to wire to take out the prized title for 2015. Following on from assuming the opening round lead courtesy of a 75, Wooster’s final round of 80 was enough to see her take the title by eight shots from Spring Valley local Sue Semmens who enjoyed a consistent event taking home the overall nett prize for the event with a fine score of 155 nett playing off a handicap of four. Nadine Martin of Lakes Entrance finished second with a score 162 nett off a handicap of 8.

In the men’s nett component, it was Wayne Pascoe of Cranbourne who emerged victorious by two strokes with a fine two round total of 146 nett playing off a handicap of 3 with Lucas Murtagh representing Spring Valley finishing second on a countback from Richard Cahill of Commonwealth with both recording two round nett totals of 148 off handicaps of 6 & 3 respectively.
