Bowditch closes in on Tour card

Australian Steven Bowditch remains on track to secure a PGA Tour card after storming to the top of the Q-School Tournament in California. With the top 25 plus ties qualifying for next year&aposs PGA Tour, Bowditch sits comfortably eight shots clear of the cut off with a round to play of the six-day event in La Quinta. The 29-year-old shot the round of the day with an eight-under 64 to move to 23 under overall, a shot clear of Kris Blanks, who carded a 66. Derek Ernst, Steve LeBrun and Edward Loar are in equal third at 21 under while overnight leader Dong-hwan Lee slipped back to 20 under overall after two birdies in his round. But the day belonged to Bowditch, who saved some of his best golf this season for the crucial qualifying tournament with a bogey-free round and four birdies on each of the front and back nines. Brad Fritsch (tied 11th) and Kevin Kisner (tied 18th) were the big movers inside the top 25 while Fabian Gomez and Scott Langley both moved up 22 places to equal 24th. Australians Matt Jones and Mathew Goggin (both 68) are right in the hunt for Tour cards in a tie for 11th and 18th respectively. Meanwhile, Bryden Macpherson (tied 55th), Rod Pampling and Adam Crawford (both tied 62nd) all dropped down the order after rounds in the 70s.
