Golf Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport confirmed today that Brad James has been appointed to the position of Golf Australia/Australian Institute of Sport High Performance Program Director. James is the current Director of Golf at the University of Minnesota, a position he has held for the past two seasons. He also manages the Brad James Golf Academy which conducts clinics and camps for adults and juniors in Minnesota. Prior to his current role, James had served as Head Men’sGolf Coach at the University of Minnesota since 2001. Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said he was pleased to welcome James back to Australia. Brad has extensive experience in developing elite amateur players and has taken the University of Minnesota s men’s and women’s golf squads to new heights under his tenure, Pitt said. Brad will play a fundamental role in the leadership and management of High Performance golf in Australia and will continue to enhance Australia s highly respected international reputation for developing the next generation of elite golfers. AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker said the appointment of James was a major boost to Australian golf. Brad is highly credentialed with an excellent track record in producing great young golfers. I m sure his depth of knowledge and experience will underpin the future success of our group of talented young golfers Professor Fricker said. University of Minnesota Director of Athletics Joel Maturi thanked James for his dedication. “Looking back it really is remarkable what Brad accomplished here and frankly he deserves the credit. He has a knack for developing players and helping them peak at just the right time and we all enjoyed the fruits of his labor, Maturi said. Formerly from Cairns, James officially begins on July 1 but will work around pre-existing commitments with collegiate golf.
