Children Love Golf at Braidwood
Braidwood Golf Club was as pretty as a picture in January for the MyGolf School Holiday Program. As unusual at this time of year, the course was beaming with fresh green grass after recent rains.
With many thanks to Sue Harrison from JNJG and Braidwood’s Rod Coady for their tireless efforts in coaching eleven local primary school aged children and a member's two visiting grandchildren. It was a wonderful turnout and the children really seemed to enjoy themselves.
The format was great fun, with two mornings dedicated to skills, drills, and games around the greens, driving balls down the ninth fairway from the synthetic turf mats, hitting sand castles and balls from the bunkers, and, on the final morning, a round of amended Ambrose with each pair of children accompanied by a member around the course.
Thanks to members Virginia Groot Obbink, Robyn Sim, Michelle Henry, Mike Fitzgerald, Keith Ferguson and Les Hart who showed off their own golfing skills and provided guidance on the course for the children. Each morning Pauline Coady catered for morning tea with beautifully decorated cupcakes and on the final day prepared the BBQ lunch!
A highlight of the program was the receipt of the MyGolf participant pack. Each child received, as part of their registration, a golf club, ball, MyGolf cap and draw string bag. There was so much excitement from the kids!
For most of the children this was their first taste of golf and their enthusiasm and delight was indeed infectious. Braidwood Golf Club hopes to harness this and provide a regular golfing program for juniors.
