Brewerton breaks through

Becky Brewerton has broken through for her maiden Ladies European Tour win, taking out the English Open. Brewerton, from Wales, overcame a second-round 74 to street away from the field to finish at seven-under, three shots ahead of Linda Wessberg, Kirsty Taylor and Karen Stupples. The 24-year-old was in a four-way tie for the lead heading into the third and final round but pulled away from the field, carding a four-under 68 – the lowest score of the day – on the Chart Hills course, which included five birdies and a solitary bogey at the 18th. Leah Hart finished the best of the Australians at one-over, which placed her in a tie for 12th alongside Johanna Westerberg, Diana Luna and Cecilia Ekelundh. Karen Lunn was two strokes back at plus-three, while Lisa Hean, the third Australian to make the cut, ended the week at five-over.
