Former National Squad member Bronson La&aposCassie fired a remarkable eight birdies on the back nine to win the inaugural Smartcup Australian Invitational at Flinders Golf Club in Victoria. It was his first professional win and caps off a memorable few months after he claimed outright honours on the PGA Tour of Australiasia&aposs Q-School in December. The win will also undoubtedly give his confidence and bank balance a significant boost to start the new year. “What can I say, this is just unbelievable!” “To win today makes life easier for the next 12 months and gives me a great opportunity to play overseas,” said La&aposCassie. Victorian Craig Scott was outright second, one stroke behind La&aposCassie whilst Steven Jeffress and amateur Tom Prowse were locked in equal third at seven-under the card. The unique event at Flinders brought together a blend of sports, culture and activities. Running concurrently with the golf was a skateboarding competition, hot rod displays and a boat show. Not to mention regular cannon fire from the nearby gunnery range! Organisers would have been thrilled with the turnout and the exciting finish to a golf event featuring so many of our best professional players.
