The sibling pair of Piper and Jasper Stubbs have taken out the 2018 Yarrawonga Junior Open with matching scores of 140 (-4). An early morning fog delay eventually cleared and blue skies greeted the golfers for their final 9 holes on the Lake Course.

Piper (Huntingdale GC) started the day one shot behind overnight leader Ashleigh Hall. A steady even par front nine gave Piper a 2 shot lead at the turn before reeling off 4 birdies in the final 9 holes for a final round 68 (-4). Piper took the overall Girl’s Championship by 11 shots with rounds of 72, 68.

In the boy’s section it was a tense final round with Kieran Vogels making an early charge to finish the front 9 three under par. An array of birdies and bogeys from both Kieran and Jasper on the back 9 nine left Jasper with a one-shot lead standing on the 18th tee. Kieran hit the 18th green for 2 and holed a clutch 20ft putt for eagle to put himself in a playoff with Jasper who took birdie on 18. Both players finishing the 2 rounds at 4 under par (140). Caleb Bovalina’s eagle putt on 18lipped out to miss a spot in the playoff and finish 3rd overall (141).

Both players hit the par 518th in regulation on the first playoff hole, Jasper almost holing his bunker approach shot. A missed birdie attempt by Kieran left Jasper with a 3-foot putt to take the trophy which he confidently holed. Jasper was crowned the overall boys champion with rounds of 67,73.

This is the second event in which the Stubbs siblings have taken out the overall winners prizes. The first, was earlier this year at the Central Victorian Junior Masters held in Bendigo.

In the overall nett Kieran Vogels (Huntingdale GC), playing off 1, claimed the trophy with two rounds of nett 69.  Kieran’s nett win involved 7 birdies and an eagle across the 36 holes.
