James Brown (Parklands) has claimed the Victorian Men’s Sand Greens title for 2015 by one shot today at the Quarry Hill Golf Club.
In his speech, Brown thanked all the many volunteers who helped run the tournament over the weekend, appreciating the “hard work and dedication small clubs show to get such fantastic tournaments off the ground”.
James finished on a two round total score of 141 one shot clear of Scott Boschen (Horsham) in second place with a two round total of 142.Finishing in third place for the tournament with a two round total score of 146 was Tim Purtill (Thurgoona).
Best overall nett winner went to Mitch Whittle (Elmore) on a count back with a total nett score of 128 over the two rounds. Whittle won the title from Trevor Poole (Ocean Grove) who’s second round was 5 shots shy of taking the title. Michael Fitzgerald (Dimboola) took out third place honours only one shot behind on a 129 total.
All volunteers at Quarry Hill including kitchen assistants, BBQ operators, course spotters, and scrapers should be congratulated for their efforts over the weekend.
Quarry Hill, who hosted this tournament for the first time this weekend, was presented in great condition despite the lack of rain that has fallen for the district so far this year which has dried many courses out. The sun made a welcome appearance for round 2 which was a relief for the players, adding to the enjoyment of the course.
Golf Victoria looks forward to another successful event in 2016, with the event to be staged at Bannockburn Golf Club on the 10-11 September 2016.
