Sportal Queenslander Andrew Buckle has reeled off seven birdies in carding a third round of 68 at the Buick Invitational to assume joint leadership of the tournament with American Brandt Snedeker who fired a 74. However, if Buckle is to produce a fairytale ending to the tournament, he is going to have to produce a similar, if not better, performance in the fourth round with the great Tiger Woods just two strokes adrift on nine-under. Woods only birdied three of the 18 holes for the round, but managed to make par for the other 15 as he tied for fourth spot with fellow Americans Troy Matteson and Charles Howell III. Six shots separated Buckle and Snedeker at the midway point of the tournament but Buckle played out of his skin as he recorded the equal-best round three in the field to be 11-under par heading into the final round. Snedeker self-destructed on the South Course with an inexplicable total of seven bogeys that resulted in him conceding outright leadership of the competition. It was a brilliant turnaround in form for Buckle who had produced a rather moderate second round which yielded just the two birdies. American Kevin Sutherland sits in outright third position just one shot off the pace, while the experienced Mark Calcavecchia is one of seven players within three strokes of the lead heading into the final round. The next best-placed Australians are Steve Allan, Gavin Coles, Robert Allenby and Jarrod Lyle who are all five-under par.
