Alan Bullas has capitalised on his round 1 lead and claimed victory at the Kooringal Senior Amateur. The Portsea member put together two steady rounds of 74 and 75 to finish on a 36-hole total of 149, 7 shots clear of the nearest competitors Tim Kirtley (13th Beach) and Mick Streit (Huntingdale). Kirtley’s 78 today beat Streit’s 80 to take home the runner-up prize.
Newcomber Paul Williams of Kew has secured his first victory on the senior circuit. The 9 marker posted solid rounds of nett 72 and 71 to tie Bullas’ nett score of 143. As each player can only win one major gross or nett prize, the runner-up trophy went to the next best scorer Kerry Boehm from Rossdale. Boehm was the clubhouse nett leader until the last card from Williams came in.
It was a Kooringal takeover in the women’s section, with the local members claiming victory in all sections. Debbie Gorin was the best scratch player, with a two round total of 42 scratch points edging out Heather Harley on 41 points. Gorin had a stableford score of 38 points and was thrilled to post a fantastic score today.
As Gorin had claimed the scratch prize, the best stableford prize went to Helen Grieve on 62 points, followed closely by Morag Zun on 60 points. Zun’s score of 36 points today won the runner-up count back from Denise Doolan.
It is a busy time of year for the seniors now as they move to the next event at Warragul CC next Thursday 25 and Friday 26 February where places are still available for late entries.
