Caelli Wins Judy Elphinstone Tournament

Prospect Vale Golf Club’s Lily Caelli has successfully captured her first Judy Elphinstone 54-Hole Tournament title.

The 18-year-old held off former champion and Elderslie Golf Club member Karen Calvert to record a nine-stroke victory at Thirlstane Golf Club on Monday.

Following rounds of 77 and 40, Caelli went into day two one stroke ahead of Calvert, with Smithton golfer Jackie Poke a further four shots adrift.

However, the final day’s scores of 77 and 39 were enough to see Caelli finish ahead of the competition on seventeen-over-par 233.

Calvert, a former Tasmanian women’s team member, finished in second place on 242 after returning rounds of 76, 42, 82 and 42.

Poke maintained her good form to finish third overall after carding 83, 39, 76 and 44 for the tournament.

While Port Sorell Golf Club’s Sharon Crowden finished fourth with a 54-hole tournament total of 250.

Prospect Vale’s Patsy Muir collected the B Grade Championship with rounds of 92 and 98, with George Town member Annette Bryan one stroke adrift in second.

The C Grade Championship was won by Vicki Towns from George Town who defeated Pauline Jenkins of Colebrook on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off.

Nikki Haines from the Moore Park Golf Club in New South Wales fought hard to win the senior championship over Lindsay French of Prospect Vale.
